I would love more command & conquer games. There hasn’t been anything new in a long time that has that feeling of collecting resources and building bases and troops.
BAR might scratch your itch. It’s also free and open source
BAR is really more close to supreme commander to the point that when i first saw it i was thinking “wait what they made a new supreme commander”
There’s also Stormgate coming out later this year from a load of the former StarCraft developers.
i have a feeling that if there is going to be a good rts in the next few years its going to either stormgate or zerospace
Others have mentioned Stormgate, but I think the upcoming Tempest Rising is more in the Command & Conquer vein

I want a VR game like this so bad.
I bet you could make a cool game centered around that thematic visual of moving pieces around a map. Or like Ender’s Game style
