Let me preach you the gospel of sleeping twice a day for 4-5 hours. I used to have a real slump around (after)noon to the point that i would fall asleep sitting in a chair, naturally resulting in back/neck pain. Now i just take a nice long nap whenever i feel like it, waking up to a refreshed mind.

Ideally, supervision over most non critical sectors would fall to randomly drafted, single term committees of the people, think jury duty except better compensated and obviously with bureaucratic resources available to enable these committees to fulfil their role adequately.

Now this isn’t suited for everything, but in either system any true oversight is done by the people, not the state.

What annoys me personally about it (to the point that i blocked the community) is that it is mandatory. That’s not humor, or funny, that is weird performative scripted humor. I often felt reminded of carnival speeches.

I’d also argue that it isnt very successful in clearing anglicisms from the german vernacular when it is all about making the most incorrect and cryptic literal translation imaginable to the point that nobody could understand unless they are well versed in those anglicisms.

  • Without Linux and trek you miss out on the best of Lemmy lol

I have blocked a range of conservative, rightwinger, hexbear and lemmygrad communities and instances, copious amounts of furry and anime porn, a great many LGBT communities which i am not the target user for (esp. Nsfw ones), some weird niche porn I really dont want to ever see on my feed, any communities that post ai generated content, and a bunch of others.

All in all about 90 communities I think

  • I suspect if they let steam do it there is nothing stopping steam from running it on Linux as well, provided the usual compatibility features such as proton wouldnt be deliberately incapacitated by Microsoft; which in turn would piss off valve a lot because of the steam deck and OS.

They invested heavily in their Linux fork and compatibility suite, if windows store were to fuck with that I suspect they would be on the losing end. Steam users are very loyal to the company and by default extremely hostile to proprietary fuckery.

Pretty sure this is the exact reason plato (iirc) described democracy as the second worst possible system of government, next to autocracy. Giving everyone a say in politics is fair, but conveniently ignores that most people are simply too dumb, ignorant, lazy and uninterested in political matters to be able to exercise that power responsibly.

Why does real life not provide the same gratification hormones?

Obviously it should make me feel much happier and accomplished to do literally anything constructive with my time, even more so when my bank account total goes up from getting paid, than to have a mediocre time getting dunked on in an online shooter, but it doesn’t work that way…

Are there any studies done on this? I know there are apps and systems that attempt to do just this, gameifying real life chores with moderate success. Why does this not work as well as one would expect? The psychology should be very interesting.

Once you’re older than 15 you will discover that a few things in life can have a massive impact on your general well being and health, and it absolutely makes sense to spend big on those. Good shoes are one of these things, a quality mattress appropriate for your body type is another.

  • Honestly I am dismayed we have this dumb ass reddit culture take hold. Not everything you disagree with must be bannned from the sub defederated immediately, your instance doesnt owe you a feed that’s exactly how you like it. Defederation should be the last resort, since it entirely breaks communication and interaction between the instance’s users.

Instead, use the client side blocking features to clean up your feed. Personally I have blocked over 80 communities and users because they are centered around topics or beliefs I dont want on my feed, I blocked two instances as well, but I can still read their user’s comments and interact with their users outside the instances.

Defederating is just splintering the fediverse. Unless at all avoidable it shouldn’t be done, in fact I chose my instance specifically because it defederates nobody but meta and illegal content such as gore and csam.
