I agree with the points being made here, but for me personally, my favorite thing is that I’m not constantly being corralled into some corporate trap like other social media - especially lately. I’m being treated like a user again, instead of a statistic in some dickhead’s CPM chart.

The thing is, I wouldn’t even be mad about ads necessarily. It’s just that the whole idea of “ads” has become so aggressively anti-consumer that it’s literally a bad security practice to not block them.

Like, if they allowed well-vetted ads, served without tracking and all that trash, I honestly wouldn’t mind. The server hosting does need to be paid for somehow, after all, and it remains to be seen if donations alone can really sustain it long term.

That said, as a user, I do appreciate this being one of the very few places not trying to inundate me with consumerism.

@kakes Yeah unsure if the future of the Fediverse can last with just donations but it seems like most instances don’t cost much to run and knowing you have so much more content than if you where just trying to be another Facebook without the Fediverse access.

In the end of the day the cats out of the bag and companies like META know this and are rather trying to create there own Fediverse instance, just make there platform join it (such as Tumblr) or hope that it goes away like X/Twitter
