“I’m going to business school!”
I don’t use youtube for it’s riveting entertainment, I use it to learn things.
There are washing machines without anything more complex than a switch in them. If you really had a “pile of disassembled washing machines” you’d know that.
Doubt.
My electric bill changed by less than $2 per month when I installed an “inefficient” washing machine. It was so little that I’m not sure the washer was the cause. That’s $72 over a period of three years. The machine it replaced was just out of warranty and needed a $200 drain pump.
Does an old school washer dryer that runs off timer relays / knobs / push buttons really have a CPU?
Nope, it’s just a timer-drive. cam triggering switches. The physical cam IS the CPU.
We have reached a point in time where there are adults who think everything that runs through multiple steps must have a microcontroller, because only really really old machines* do without.
*For the most part. I bought a brand new whirlpool dryer late last year, and it has a mechanical timer in it.
Having a newer machine cost me slightly less money on utilities, and considerably more in washing machine parts.
There’s more to go wrong on an old washing machine and each control board was unique to the machine
What? Old washing machines just use switches and a cam that’s on a timer. Anyone who can read a basic schematic can figure out what is wrong with one.
“www” for World Wide Web has always bugged me. World Wide Web is three syllables, WWW is nine.
I couldn’t imagine the stress of knowing what I know now and being sent back to when I was six years old. I’d be trapped with my parents.
I’d take the money. My wife is amazing, and we are very happy together, but a lot of things had to fall just right for us to end up together.
I have everything lying around to build one of these…
Money people are literally too stupid to understand anything other than line go up or line go down. They were told line would go up if DRM, so that’s what they want.
I wish I or someone else who understands CAD modeling could help make FreeCAD work better. A LOT of the issue is tools that are commonly used are hidden in weird places that make sense only to people who don’t used cad for a living.
The last time I made anything like a profile for tinder was when I made one for PoF back in the before times, in the long-long ago, the year 2007. I didn’t have fish pictures, but I did have a picture of me riding a unicycle.
It was more effective than I expected.
I used to work with a guy who could draw. He would absentmindedly create masterpieces with a sharpie and a dirty sheet of cardboard while waiting on a machine to finish. He said the only reason he can do it is because he practiced.
Every cool thing you see someone do, they’re only capable of it because they kept trying every day.
Watched a video from the “Townsend” channel on youtube while I was off work after a surgery back in January. He does a lot of 18th century cooking, in a kitchen without any modern equipment. I remember him making some bread and I thought “Wait - that’s not impossible, it doesn’t even look difficult”.
I tried to make some bread and it was amazing. Which lead me to try making something else… and now, in December, I’m able to cook a bunch of cool things that even my daughter will eat. I made cookies for Thanksgiving (chocolate chip, and some chai spice cookies I was experimenting with) and they all vanished, while my aunt, who makes cookies for a living, kept reminding people that she had made some cookies too.
My wife and I are visibly thinner and healthier than we were this time last year. We keep trying to cook new things, and it keeps working.
A lot of my weekends start with an early-morning motorcycle ride to the store to get the one or two things I need to make something, and I hope that the image of a large, unpleasant looking bearded man on a harley running to the store for stuff to make cookies tickles everyone.
Some are but most aren’t. Can’t really tell a difference.
I’m not the person you responded to, but I’m another crazy chicken person. I have three ladies and one boy chicken. They have a half acre to run around on typically, but right now I have them in the plot where we grow vegetables so they can break up and fertilize the ground.
Having a rooster for free range chickens is, in my opinion, 100% necessary. My roo does a good job of herding the ladies into the coop when he sees a hawk or anything else he thinks is dangerous. He also makes sure all three hens get food, instead of one of them eating everything. When the sun goes down, he rounds up the girls and they head into the coop to sleep. Here is a pic of my roo, he’s quite the gentleman.
The meanest, most dangerous dog I knew was an american eskimo owned by my ex wife. This was a 20 pound fluffball, and he looked like he would be friendly and fun to scratch behind the ears.
He loved to bite people, especially children. He had a specific thing he would do when someone looked at him: he would look up and smile, while vigorously wagging his poofy tail. You’d reach down to pet that brilliant white, angel-soft fur, and as soon as you were close enough, he would take a chunk out of your hand or arm. This wasn’t a playful bite, he would bite down hard and hang on.
“Andor” is the best Star Wars series.
I’m reminded of Bender:
“This isn’t even about you”
“That’s impossible!”
