Thanks for this insight, seriously. Because of course, it sounds really scary, and we all know which side of the fence relies most heavily on fear based rhetoric.
The “common sense” logic feels sound, but you’re right that it’s deceptive, and trying to use some “system” to both read the future AND use it to scare everyone into thinking it’s doomsday every week? When you think about it, gee, that HAD to be a fashy business fund manager idea lmao.

It goes the opposite way for wanting to reproduce, too. That is, myself and my wife decided we would try to start a family, and she’s apparently fine, but something isn’t working on my side of things. (Her doc even said “Don’t worry about it, men tend to be an easy fix.”)
There’s a million programs and special coverages and stuff for women’s fertility, but all I asked is “Hey can we just diagnose what’s wrong with me? I don’t want super-swimmer-syrum or something I just wanna know.”
They refuse to consider it urology or any kind of “men’s health”, and keep wanting to rule as “fertility treatment” which conveniently isn’t covered.
Men’s reproductive rights aren’t even on the radar.
I like a lot of these takes and explanations on behalf of the protestors, like that they throw paint to signify “What will be lost in the climate crisis” for instance. It’s clever.
But also, asymmetrical warfare is very much about winning “hearts and minds.” If all you do is petty vandalism to annoy and or sabotage other working class people, you just succeed in pissing them off while the actual culprits are still laughing their way to the bank.
Worse, it makes it much easier for them to get public support in crushing your movement by turning your own class against you. You’ve then raised awareness that “People dressed like this are a public nuisance that will get in your way” more than climate change.
Most average people don’t know what they can do to actively sabotage the oil industry. Myself included, I feel pretty damn hand-bound when a lot of issues are systemic, like unwalkable cities and forced commutes for instance.
What’s the call to action for everyone stuck on a blocked road?
You gotta educate your potential allies instead of merely resorting to performative shock for clout, then you gotta give them the tools to join your plight.
Many groups just shout “awareness! Be aware btw!”, and stop there to collect their nonprofit money.
Awareness is made. Cool. Now what? That’s what we want to see them answer.
All those “active listening” skills to trick people into thinking you’re paying attention or care. Lol

On one hand I have my personal firstname-lastname-dot-com I’m still hosting for years. I’m not a webdev but WordPress is awfully bloated and everything else needs a touch of webdev skills.

The other is a fun clever one I route through cloudflare to access all my home server stuff via HTTPS over TailScale. Never have to expose any ports to the big scary world wide web. :p

Used to work in a public library. Majority of the job was walking people through “forgot password” which was never a simple affair, and getting to see what a Hotmail/Yahoo/AOL inbox looks like with like 90,000 unread because they gave their email to every store and web form they ever encountered.
Near drove me to madness.
Ah yes, all those books whose plots are being used as manuals these days. :( lol
The Giver was really neat. Accessible too. The movie adaptation was such a bad idea because I thought one of its strengths was how it was set in an ambiguous time, iirc. The reader’s visuals seemed really important for that story.
Oh wow, I actually haven’t read the Rama books (been meaning to!), but I vividly remember the flawed-but-wonderous PC adventure game. Have you played it by chance?
Haha, grokking abstract space-math associations maybe wasn’t my strength when I was like…7 or something (prolly still isn’t LOL). But I sure did enjoy crudely drawing the biots and aliens. :D
The soundtrack is still one of my favorites from any game, ever.
This humorous review is fun to watch, but there’s really good gameplay and stuff without commentary too. :)
There’s been some surprising upsets recently though! We were all bracing for a fashy-wave but lots of progressive leaders have been elected lately, after it looked like their hardline iron-fist nationlist counterparts were gaining ground.
By no means a reason to take it easy and give them a breather, oh no! But we should definitely acknowledge every little bit of dystopia we manage to collectively avert. Even if only a little.
