It was an extremely bigoted, vulgar, personal attack on an admin in his own thread about why Hexbear deserves a second chance.

    Sure, no arguments there.

An utterly vile statement like that followed by your soft “time and place” non-rebuke does not deserve any benefit of the doubt so yes, I will absolutely jump to the obvious interpretation.

Okay, but I’ve already clarified that I didn’t agree with what he said, and all I was trying to say was “be nice.” You obviously want less needless hostility from Hexbear users towards other instances, and I want that, too. Please afford us the same respect.

Especially in a thread about continued unacceptable Hexbear behavior. “Read the room” indeed.

In the same message the admin has also asked all users to “Be kind to each other, even if you disagree.” I’m respecting that request by trying to have a polite discussion with the users in this instance, but I have received nothing but hostility from you in return.

I’m not an admin or a mod for Hexbear, so I don’t have the power to dictate what other users say or to remove their comments. My point was this message was needlessly hostile against an instance admin who is acting in good faith and apologizing for a previous action against one of our users. I was politely telling him to cool off and be nice. I apologize if my comment was misinterpreted as an endorsement of what he said. That said, while I understand many users aren’t fond of us at Hexbear, I would appreciate if you would not immediately jump to the worst possible interpretations of our comments.

For the record, I think the time and place for such rhetoric would be exclusively within the Hexbear instance, against agitators who are deliberately being hostile towards us. Outside of Hexbear, and with users who are at least trying to engage in good faith, I agree that Hexbear users are often too impulsive with escalating directly to dunks and spamming PPB. In this case, I thought the user was way out of line and I politely told them so. Apparently they agreed and deleted their own comment.

I know Hexbear users can be a bit much, but I think we’re capable of having level-headed conversations with other instances about toning it down whenever we step outside our own hive.

I mean you could try expanding your horizons a little bit and learning about other instances instead of being so scared of every opposing viewpoint on the internet. I promise you we aren’t anywhere near as bad as the libs across lemmy grumble about.

But like others have said there’s currently no built in lemmy way to do it. If you’re using uBlock Origin, you can go into the options (with the gears), go into the My filters tab, and add this line to the bottom:

    lemm.ee##div.post-listing > div:nth-child(2) > article:nth-child(1) > div:nth-child(2) > div:nth-child(1) > div:nth-child(2) > div:nth-child(3) > a:nth-child(2) > span:has-text(@hexbear.net):upward(8)

It won’t exactly block it but it’ll filter out any Hexbear posts from your page when it loads so you don’t see them. You can replace the lemm.ee at the beginning with another instance and it should continue to work elsewhere, as long as there aren’t any major changes to the front end.

If you aren’t using uBlock then idk how you’re even getting through life.
