I had Corel WordPerfect for Linux.
You could modify the SGML codes to create documents that were compatible with all other versions of WordPerfect and MS Word, but he features that were supported in the document format, but not in the software.
For instance, I could change use more than the 16 colours that the Word for Windows UI allowed you to use, even though the displayed correctly in the WYSIWYG editor and printed correctly.
I think you a both right. Historically, Semites referred to a large cultural group.

Mine had a 3-speed crash box with an unusual shift-pattern that basically made the theft-proof. It also ran on both LPG and Petrol so I could drive it everywhere without having to refill.
Petrol was reasonably priced back then and LPG was even cheaper.

As posted above, same here. We use the Intercom feature on a HomePod to call her down. She hates it because the whole point of AirPods Pro is so she can ignore everyone!
I’m trying to train the rest of our household to use our voice assistant intercom feature.
One of the kids hates that the intercom interrupts whatever she is doing, as far as she is concerned, she ignores everyone else and uses her noise-cancelling earbuds for a reason.
Before anyone asks, I have already trained them to not say anything personal within earshot of the home assistants.
26·7 months agoBecause the hardware is being made obsolete for a reason. They are inefficient compared to modern hardware, consume way too much power and there are cheaper and more powerful options available.
A modern ARM-based computer like the Raspberry Pi 5 can outperform most computers and laptops running Windows 10 and have a smaller environmental footprint.
The problem is that the obsolete hardware is not cost effective to decommission and recycle. They have not been designed for an environmentally conscious world.

The only thing complicated about signing up for Mastodon (and Lemmy) is choice of instance.
Some people need that choice made for them, even though it does not practically matter. Most instances federate with content on other instances and it is possible to migrate your content to an new instance if you change your mind in the future.
Fortunately there are regional instances for both for me so it was pretty much a no-brainer for me to use aus.social and aussie.zone

1·1 year agoLemmy us only superficially similar to Reddit. In fact it is much more, or so much less, depending on what you need in your social networking.
That level of control makes it more complicated for some people.
I used to write my Computer Science assignments in DocBook (XML). It would amaze the assessor’s when they said they wanted a PDF or PostScript or HTML or whatever and I would spit out a document custom formatted for whichever platform they wanted.
Then they would ask for it in Word DOC and I would be screwed.
