  • Honestly I think everything should move to 20.

Alcohol purchase, consumption. Military conscription, draft, voluntary service Age of majority, marriageable age Voting with automatic voting registration Drug consumption including nicotine, caffeine, and cabinets Driving ( permits at a prior age with supervision )

We know people’s brains aren’t really formed enough even at 18 to consider people adults, this younger age is a hold over from even younger ages and doesn’t reflect reality.

People who are not fully developed shouldn’t be able to make decisions with the full weight of adulthood, to take any other position is barbaric.

  • In English the ‘base’ of the word is ‘operate’. Co, an affix ( prefix ) modifies operate and means something like ‘operate together’, and can even be written as co-operative ( noun ) or co-operate ( verb, but antiquated in my opinion ) .

So it’s usually written without the dash, but when it’s shorted to ‘coop’ I think it’s best to use the dash as it removes ambiguity.

  • You said this very well. It’s no more stealing than you looking at a piece of art and remembering details, and producing output from that input no more immoral.

It’s clearly necessary to have the broadest possible training data in order to be useful at all. If it isn’t familiar with Spider-Man it can’t create art depicting an accurate representation of him.

If anything I’m proud of the pioneers ignoring the legal implications and pushing forward, instead of letting copyright limit what AI understands.

Every single picture on the Internet, ever created, unless specifically licensed Creative Commons or equivalent via licensing has an implicit copyright. AI art is impossible under international copyright framework at written, so thank God they ignored the insanity of intellectual property fuckery the US has imposed on the world.

  • You got voted down, but this is absolutely real. I speak multiple languages, but none with the nuance and clarity of context as I do English. I communicate with folks all across the world that are all English speakers, however, the variance in comprehension is so drastic that at times we’re really not using the same language, even if we’re using some of the same words.

If you emigrate to a country, it’s a reasonable expectation that you’ll learn the language. The United States doesn’t technically have an official language, English is just de facto, but from a practical standpoint it’s absolutely occupying that role, and will in perpetuity.

I can absolutely agree with the premise that being frustrated with language barriers isn’t racism, it’s an actual real and realized impediment to understanding.

This is a big reason I’m anti capitalist as well, it has no mechanism outside of regulation for controlling the usage of resources, and so long as something is profitable it will be pursued.

This natural result is the regulation reduces profit and it is an adversarial relationship. Because Capitalism is incapable of this, and runaway consumption is driving climate change and many ecological problems, Capitalism must either be tamed and tightly controlled, or most likely replaced with a resource aware system, such as a central planning system that considers resource consumption and weighs it against ecological considerations.

To fix things, a drastic shift is necessary, and actually is so far overdue that it’s likely too late to do anything other than a near paradigm shift.

Cool, but definitely not my experience growing up. You could get those prices sometimes at Wal-Mart but CDa would be edited or censored, and I grew up in an area where there were no standalone CD or Record stores, so all I saw and had access to was mall stores like Camelot Music, FYE, or Sam Goody.

The prices I’m referencing were 100% accurate for my time of reference, which was the bulk of the nineties.

Only towards the end, like literal turn of the century late 1999 into 2000 did things actually start to change.

    I promise this is true.
