I did recently discover you can turn off “Web and App Activity” for your Google account, which seems to disable Google saving most of your data (searches, viewed places, etc), for what that’s worth. It definitely cripples Google maps even more than I think it should, since now I can’t even search for labels I’ve added to Google maps myself.

I’ve been meaning to try Organic Maps as well, but haven’t even gotten around to installing it yet.

1. Android has motion photos, which i think is on by default and is more or less the same as live photos.
2. This is just a coincidence, I know Apple maps is good these days, but just the other day my friend was using Apple maps to guide us and it hallucinated a restaurant wholesale. Like, this location for this restaurant has never existed as far as we can tell.

Backblaze personal is $9 a month or $99 a year for unlimited backup. The first result on Amazon for a 4tb HDD is $85. Building a NAS costs the same as 2.5 years of this cloud backup for the drives alone, and doesn’t actually give you a backup at all. The costs scale even more poorly if you need to store more than your 8tb.

The Android TV app isn’t great either. I just cast to the TV from the mobile app, which is still slightly buggy but generally works fine.

Honestly nothing has changed since the OG tpb days, you can even still use tpb. BitTorrent should be replaced with qBitTorrent or something I think, I haven’t exactly changed my client in years. You have more choices of VPNs now if you care about that I guess. Some of the other old good trackers are defunct, but I think Reddit still has an actively maintained wiki of good public trackers…

I was literally told once that they were no longer hiring for the role I applied for because Facebook had slowed hiring and they were slowing hiring too in response.

The company I was applying to isn’t even in the same industry as Facebook, other than both being tech companies.

The Adobe photography plan costs me $120 a year, and honestly includes more useful updates than not. Their AI masking upgrades the last couple years are saving me hours to days of editing time per photo session.

$120 a year is worth maybe one hour of my free time. Even just migrating to Darktable would take me weeks or months of dedicated time to migrate my existing catalog.

Yeah, my infection was 4-5 months after the last booster too, so there’s even a chance I still had a little bit of protection going in. No long term effects thankfully, though exercise was really rough for a month or two afterwards, which really worried me.

The vaccine gave me, at worst, a sore arm for a couple days. The actual infection knocked me completely out for 3 days. I had enough energy to microwave and eat food a couple times a day, and sleep.

Photo editing storage gets intense when modern cameras are taking lossless RAW images at 20fps. Video editing storage is honestly just insane to begin with.

5. Adobe software. Honestly they work, and work well.

No matter what you drive, it’s still not hard to be better than all the people who stall traffic because they don’t realize they can squeeze through a gap about 4 feet wider than their car so we can actually pre fill the turn lane while the light’s red.

Nor is it hard to actually know to accelerate smoothly through a turn instead of braking through it.

Or to know how to just stay in your clearly marked turn lane during your turn (literally marked through the entire intersection) instead of cutting off the other two turn lanes (this happened to me yesterday).

None of these things are actually much harder to do in a large car than a sports car, just obviously your actual speed and acceleration should change based on your car, tires, and everything else. I use the same principles I use when driving a fun car to help drive safely when it’s a minivan.

Last year a company I wowed at the first interview didn’t follow up. When I asked why, they said that since Facebook was slowing hiring, they were too.

They’re not even related businesses other than both broadly being tech companies.

Already commented on another, but my understanding is that water flossing isn’t as good at removing plaque as actual floss, since it isn’t as directly abrasive. It’s great if you wouldn’t floss normally otherwise, but migrating from flossing regularly to only water flossing regularly is a downgrade in dental hygiene.
