Lemmy is beginning to get overly moderated so I think being clear on why comments are getting deleted is a great way to avoid mod abuse.

I’m a big believer in freedom of speech and how ideas are changed through open and honest discourse for the betterment of mankind. It’s a true ideal of the internet and the world at whole.

I hope this instance remains as free an open as possible and avoids the mod abuse. Even if that brings us some discomfort.

I know support is usually quiet and complaints are voiced. As such I just wanted to voice my support. Thank you.

This is interesting in the UK because the government agrees on a set a price it will pay wind farms for energy.

If power is expensive the wind farms lose out and get paid less than the value of energy. But when wind power is high and prices low they get paid the guaranteed price at the goverments expense. The government even tells them to turn of the turbines and they still get paid.

Bare in mind peak wind can last weeks rather than solar hours. But this system is one of the main reasons UK is a world leader in wind.

People struggle with the economics of losing money being the optimal solution and they want some magic situation where nothing is wasted at 0 cost but provides all demand exactly when required. Nothing works like that.

Everything is a cost.

It could quite easily be cheaper to pay people to use energy than it is to store it. Once that equation changes then hopefully they start buying storage.

America is severly lacking in UHVDC.

The peak of power demand is behind the peak of production. So sending power east makes so much sense.

Someone called me out on reddit for using the word girls for women and it was sexist because it is infantising, and it was stupid because they were making out I don’t call men boys. When I absoultely do, in fact I do it more than the alternative. Really the only way I was sexist on that is that I don’t do it as much as I do with men so if anything I should do it more.

I get that it’s stupid and there isn’t much more to say.

But why is diversity always black people? It’s not Italians or Swedes which would make way more sense, or even Indians or Chinese.

Started eating a shit tonne of rice.

Losing weight really isn’t that hard. It’s calories in verses calories out. If that doesn’t work, congratulations you are breaking the laws of thermodynamics and physics is changed forever.

I just took out some higher calorie food and ate a lot more chicken and rice and the weight dropped off kinda scary fast seeing as I was eating 4 meals a day. Ended up adding extra calories with eggs and was more comfortable with sauces.

Another time I took up surfing. Fucking hell surfing is hard, running 10 miles is easier. Increased my food load and ate a crap load more protein and just changed shape in a few months, lost the fat around my tummy and my shoulders grew huge.

People divide themselves.

They want to be separated. They want community with people like themselves. They want to be away from people that are not like them. That’s why countries divide rather than join. They only tend to expand through war.

Even when you get immigration. Those immigrants then put themselves in their own communities. It’s like putting extra borders up in a country.
