There was a brief window after ChatGPT when I had a twinkle in my eye and thought “this is an impressive start, how will they improve it? How will they make it more efficient?”.

That went away when all the tech companies in unison slurred out “make it bigga!” then pushed to production.

God you don’t realize how many tiny things you need to buy until you don’t have them.

You’d expect to find something like a ruler, some tape, a pen, sticky notes, ect. but realize you gotta buy them first instead of just searching your clutter drawers.

With plenty of investment you can get the tabletop to be almost exactly what you want it to be, and for a popular system like 5e you can make it as automated as a Baldurs Gate game. You just need to download a lot of modules to get there and customize a lot of settings. Without that it just becomes a less intuitive Roll20.

And I must stress from experience, never offer to host/troubleshoot a server for someone else, especially if the DM likes to complain or can’t handle minor technical setbacks.

I know from learning programming that people online don’t explain “common sense” problems. So many times you’ll look up a problem and see people talk about huge refactors or complex niche fixes when in reality you misplaced a single line of code.

That’s simultaneously funny and depressing.

The way I’ve come to understand it is that LLMs are intelligent in the same way your subconscious is intelligent.

It works off of kneejerk “this feels right” logic, that’s why images look like dreams, realistic until you examine further.

We all have a kneejerk responses to situations and questions, but the difference is we filter that through our conscious mind, to apply long-term thinking and our own choices into the mix.

LLMs just keep getting better at the “this feels right” stage, which is why completely novel or niche situations can still trip it up; because it hasn’t developed enough “reflexes” for that problem yet.

Honestly, I think capitalism wouldn’t be so bad if it was limited to what it’s good at. Fashion, tech, entertainment, snacks, ect.

But essential food, housing, water, healthcare, even electricity and internet access, the idea that these things that will always have infinite demand is haphazardly controlled through profit motive is disgusting.

Infrastructures should be government controlled and free. Essential resources should have some sort of universal basic “food stamps” system. Then actual money just becomes the luxury “fun bucks” that you don’t lose out on if you don’t have a lot. For example pet owners would be given a credits for pet food and free vet care, but a silly pet costume would use money.

Disclaimer: This is just a personal idea I’ve been mulling over, I’m sure there’s a million holes in it.

I’ve been enjoying it, there’s still consistent players and a good variety of decks I’ve fought.

Though you will learn to groan when you see an Oblivion Gate, Midnight Burial, or Paarthurnax.

My personal gripe is that there are so many ways to destroy/silence creatures and not many full proof counters. I’ll have several turns of placing something down, it gets destroyed, repeat.

But I always play ranked and at the moment have an equipment based deck, and a deck built around creatures that deal damage. Hardly meta but with each I win about half the time and slowly climb the ranks.

On a light note, I’m a slut for Bethesda, atleast I skipped Fallout 76 but I’m gonna preorder Starfield. I was 11 when Skyrim came out and it’s very near and dear to me and I love some aspects of Fallout 4. ESO was also not bad and I play Elder Scrolls Legends. I’m seeing this through to the end bois ✌️.

On a serious note, I swear by never drinking alone or without someone I trust as much as my partner. Nothing bad happened to me but I have several negative experiences with drinking in my family. And technically my dad died riding a motorcycle drunk, but I don’t think being sober would have saved him from that specific incident.

I just never ever want to be anything close to an alcoholic. I feel like I would get addicted if it was more convenient and didn’t taste bad. Fear of addiction is also why I’m wary of gambling.
