Honestly, I personally have zero tolerance for this. I’d block Home Depot and every other company too. Some people enjoy Wendy’s sassy tweets but it’s still marketing. It’s still only there to drill the brand into your mind.
Social networks are for people to socialize, that’s why they exist. We’re just conditioned to expect the financial incentive in everything. As if people wouldn’t make anything otherwise. People make cool stuff all the time and just put it up on the internet for everybody. Because it’s cool and because it may be useful to others. People write games and software and draw art and compose music and websites and edit wiki, not even expecting any (or minimal) profit from doing it. Because it others will find it useful and/or enjoyable. People are fundamentally kind and compassionate if they’re not pitted against each other in the name of profit. Lemmy and Mastodon are deliberately made to not be profitable. It’s a safe haven from all the corporate nonsense everywhere online and offline.

Good decision to have people heard. I’m genuinely curious about why somebody would want to side with Meta on this.

There is this lukewarm comment @sunaurus made yesterday but I would very much appreciate a definitive stance on the topic, please. I do believe that having Meta here poses a real threat to the future of fediverse. It may not be the case right now but considering the company’s history, I think it’s very safe to assume only the worst. As explained in the article linked above.

You can use imgur and paste a link to the high quality image, or fiddle with it a little to fit the limit. 100kb is fine for web use, imo. Crop, resize, convert to something like webp format… Instances are run by individuals, a server in someone’s bedroom. Not exactly a company with $15+ billion evaluation (dec2021) like reddit. It’s far from perfect, obviously. But it’s much better than I expected at first.
