Just wanted to add that apparently it’s intentionally designed that way. Regardless, I like Photon a lot so far. Consider this my vote for it!

So, if I’m browsing my feed and I click on a post is there some way for me to view that community’s side bar information without leaving the post?
I like the command palette, but it didn’t seem very apparent though. If you hadn’t told me about it, I don’t know that I would’ve discovered it on my own.
Ah, that’s a bummer but understandable though.
Thanks for the link, I’ll make a report.
In regards to photon, it does look pretty sleek. I think I still like Alexandrite better though. Could I ask why not that one instead?
Something that I noticed pretty quickly is that Photon’s sidebars seem to be static. When I have the window in a split screen view, there doesn’t seem to be any way to view them. Am I missing something?
More positives:
I also really enjoy the intro screen. It’s chill, and simple, but really well crafted. The subtle details like the syncronized blinking of the button combo indicator to start the game and the slight movement of the title text. I really appreciate that it takes you immediately into the game so quickly/easily too. It’s nice to just have the capability to jump right in and start exactly where you left off last time.
Really, I had to take a moment to write this comment just so I could listen to the intro song loop a few times. Really digging the tunes :)
I respect that.
So, I ended up switching the control scheme again… My reasoning why I switched it up in the first place was because having attack on the ‘x’ button feels more natural. However, this was making some of the platforming where you have to attack things mid-jump even more difficult. So I switched it back to left bumper = attack, right bumper = block, x = slot 1 (I think this will likely be the final version)
Awesome!
One more thing I wanted to mention real quick; there doesn’t seem to be a way to drop through ledges. Not sure if that was intentional or not, but maybe the special move that is mapped to ‘down+A’ interferes with this (usually) default mechanic?
I’ve been having the worst time trying to get hotlinks to work lately…
(Hopefully that works)
Thanks for the responses, looking forward to playing more of this and seeing it progress!
Positives:
I’m loving the music so far, really awesome chiptunes, great vibes. I love the fast paced movement and combat, and responsive controls. I’m not sure how much patience I’ll have for the precision platforming, but it feels really well done.
Suggestions:
-Default controls for the controller weren’t my favorite. It’s great that customizing them is super easy. I’d suggest these for the defaults:
-I noticed that the defaults for ‘scroll right’ and ‘scroll left’ weren’t working with the right stick. I don’t know if this could be because I changed the defaults, but setting up these two controls to the corrosponding d-pad buttons fixed it.
-Replace the Reddit link with a Lemmy one instead?
Where’s the best place to give feedback?
You’re missing out, it’s actually a really fun game.
I like the idea about planting on the west side of your house. Passive cooling like that is awesome, and I hope to incorporate that type of design in my home someday.
Would also enjoy seeing those pictures you mentioned, and the new community :)
I agree wholeheartedly, and thank you for the exceptional reply.
I had to look up what a frogfruit was:
I heard clover can be a pretty good alternative
I’ve got to say, a lot of your responses seem like you are pre-convinced that there isn’t any solution to your problem. I think that’s why you’ve been getting so much snark/pushback. (Are you looking for genuine help, or just needing to vent? Either way, it’s ok. Separating the two might be beneficial to you though, that’s all I’m saying here)
Did you read Schmorp’s full story, or just the one link I sent? I know it’s not step by step instructions, but if you’re serious about organizing something I feel like there are a lot of good tips you could pick up on from the way that they did/are doing things.
Do you have any libraries you could frequent? Many of the unknowns you have could be addressed at a library and I think they would have much more relevant answers pertaining to your locality.
Also, here’s a link to something that I just saw here, that seemed like it could be potentially relevant/useful: https://mobilizon.fr/
Schmorp! I was just talking about you!! :)
It’s probably an effect of the design of your city/town/surroundings, if I had to guess. May I ask what type of place you live in? Like, is it a suburb or something similar?
Also, you might like to read this person’s story that I’ve been following along on here. I’ll put a link for you in a minute
I bet she gets a very high TPS (threads per second)
