Boomers and Gen X did exactly the same thing that you’re doing. Nothing. They just let the super rich elite screw the whole world up and now you’re doing the same thing they did. Nothing.

If you want to act high and mighty you’re not going to change the world by complaining on the internet. You have to stop the super rich.

I remember many years ago New Scientist magazine did a review study of many different alternative medicine techniques and found that the only benefits they provided were placebo effect.

Except acupuncture. That was the only one with an effect greater than placebo.

  • I think this is a common misconception about anarchies - that there’s no social control of any kind. If you look at actual real world anarchies like Freetown Christiania in Copenhagen they don’t believe in a complete absence of organisation. Far from it - they develop community-based committees which have no actual power in themselves but are used to develop concensus on issues that affect the whole community. So rather than abolishing all rules they’re all about human collaboration and concensus.

For instance when hard drugs became a problem in Christiana the residents got together and banned hard drugs. It’s not a law as such but everyone’s in agreement that if you try to sell hard drugs you’ll be ejected.

It’s not a perfect place and it’s hard to say that their brand of anarchy works well as a system of government. It seems to have been a mixed experience for many people who’ve lived there. But it’s definitely been an interesting social experiment.

There are plenty of documentaries on youtube if you’re interested.

  • Sadly, a very low percentage of plastic gets recycled anyway. In my country recycling company stats say only 10% - 20% of collected plastic is recycled. But the reality is much worse than that.

It turns out that nearly all of even that small percentage just gets shipped to a poor country for recycling because it’s too expensive to recycle here. Once it’s been shipped it’s considered “recycled” but since recycling is expensive the company receiving it just takes the money and quietly landfills it in their own country.

The reality is that plastic recycling barely happens at all.
