  • I use flat case most of the time, but I also try to stick to single word files so there is no case to get in the way.

I think for documents I might share like a PDF I’d use Pascal case.

In a classroom or teaching setting I will sometimes use Kebab case as I find it is the least confusing and makes it extra clear where the word division is. Similarly I avoid Dot notation since it’s confusing for folks coming from a Windows world.

And I would avoid Screaming because that’s just too loud anywhere.

  • Sure Reddit and Lemmy are different technical stacks, but neither is doing anything particularly unique or complicated.

If Reddit wanted to federate it could. It would take some work but it would be an achievable task in a reasonable amount of time.

Perhaps scaling or stability issues. I’m not sure the Fediverse is ready to handle the number of actions a site like Reddit handles. Then again I’m not super well versed on that part of the Lemmy software, so maybe it would be fine.

  • Sure that reveals your distro, but also consider what is in the logs you’re sharing. If you’re asking for help you probably also already said that you’re running Debian. Or the logs are full of apt logs already, querying a well known Debian mirror.

You’re right that PC is a fine default, but think about the whole picture as well.

  • I’ve never heard that before and find it baffling.

Bulbasaur comes out of the gate with two types.

Charmander becomes Charizard with two types.

The first (or second) non-starter you encounter is Pidgy with two types.

The required Viridian Forest had Weedle with two types and if you only got a Caterpie, that becomes Butterfree who also has two types.

The number of two type Pokemon that you can catch at the start of the game is massive. Probably about half?

  • To add, that same season they already killed Glenn.

He dies, but the show doesn’t really address it. The characters do, but the show at this point was SUPER clear when a character died. Extra slow motion, special music, the works. Then they spend like 6 episodes with him dead, but you really just don’t believe it. Then they reveal how he survived and it’s just ridiculous, it’s basically “the zombies just sorta give up for some reason”. (Or is it like a dozen headshots, I forget at this point).

Anyway, ALL that happens, then the season ends on a big cliffhanger. Unfortunately the tension is all wrong. The show was moving at a glacial pace where basically if you watched the season opener, the mid-season finale (see, above) and the finale, you’d be mostly caught up on the story. And so this finale robbed us of that too.

Also the Internet was full of spoilers saying it was Glenn (from the comics) such that all excitement was lost between seasons.

That’s a link to the most recent release of Firefox and the security vulnerabilities that were fixed.

You’ll notice the first one listed says, “This issue could allow an attacker to perform remote code execution and sandbox escape.”

So if you visited a site that exploited that bug, it escaped the sandbox and ran whatever code it wanted to. Since you were running as root it could do anything it wants. Your device is now the property of someone else. Potentially all your data has been stolen. You probably didn’t even notice.

Now. Realistically. You probably didn’t get exploited. Your device may not be vulnerable to that particular bug. But new bugs are found, and fixed, and created every day. Can you be sure you weren’t exploited?

Let’s look at it a different way. Think of it like driving a car with no seatbelt or airbags. As long as you don’t crash, you’re fine. The car still works fine without seatbelts and you have more freedom to move your arms around.

Let’s look at it a different way. Do you ever lock the door to your home/apartment? Heck do you even close the door? Why not leave it wide open?

At the end of the day security is about layers and the trade offs for convenience. You can run KDE as root, and you can run Firefox as root. You’ll probably be fine. It’s like driving without a seatbelt or leaving your front door wide open, but you can do it. If you do drive with a seatbelt and at least close your front door, you can probably run KDE and Firefox as a regular user.

  • So, working backwards, thirdly, the books are excellent. The first three are by far the best and cover up to season 3/4ish. The next two are good, but also different. The show also really starts to diverge so kinda up to season 6, but only in the broadest sense.

In either case if you’re going to read the books, read them all for full background. If course we’re still waiting on at least 2 more new books, sooooooo you might be waiting a while/forever.

Second. The House of the Dragon TV series. I was also hesitant to watch it, but it really is great. It’s not perfect, but if all we ever got was this one good season, I’d be happy. If season two ends up sucking, bummer, but at least we had one good one.

And firstly. King Bran. The biggest issue with Season 8 is that it just rushes to the ending. Bran has the best story? He is a weird raven character now. What does that mean? Who understands what that means? What did he actually do? What about Meera?

But what if we knew more about this three eyed raven character? What if we understood their goals? What if they foresaw the events of the series? What if they caused, or guided them? Hodor’s purpose was to eventually save Bran. To do that Bran would have to make Hodor, Hodor. What if he helped ensure other events also took place? What if Bran being “King” was a setup from the beginning?

If all that is properly explained, I don’t really have an issue with King Bran.

Of course that only explains it for the viewer. To King’s Landing Bran is just some weird kid.

So let’s change Bran’s role slightly. The White Walkers are going to attack. The only way to win is with a united Seven Kingdoms. By the time Dany arrives the kingdom is largely united. However Dany has dragons. Can Bran convince Dany to give everything up and focus on the White Walkers? We see hints of this in the show. If the White Walker threat isn’t fixed in one episode, what happens?

There are multiple seasons of story, and that’s just Bran.

They key points of the show can still work (some of them at least), but they need time. Think of the Red Wedding. Arya’s seasons long journey is nearly at an end. Caitlyn and her negotiating is paying off. Robb is about to achieve victory. Three seasons of setup, executed perfectly.

Realistically, looking back, season 8 was never going to be able to wrap things up. Even less so with a reduced last season.

The show runners fucked up and they fucked up big time.

  • I always assume people doing this are unhinged/crazy and I definitely don’t want to deal with that.

    Sometimes they look nice enough.

Usually what happens is myself and everyone else on the train look at each other, have a shared look of “Morons? Am I right?” and then when that person leaves, we all share a group laugh.

So I guess what I’d say is, if you do this, know that everyone is laughing at you. If you say you don’t care, that’s a lie, you do care, that’s why you’re doing what you’re doing. This is not positive attention, this is negative attention. Please take a moment and reflect to be a force for positivity and not negativity.
